Meeting Rail

Either the bottom rail of an upper sash, or the top rail of a lower sash, which mate with each other, often aided by weatherstripping and/or sash locks, when the window is closed. In contrast with the other rails in a typical window, the interiors are unprofiled, and lower sash meeting rails are grooved rather than rabbeted.
